As Nigerians celebrate Valentine’s Day on February 14, a lawyer, Stan Alieke, has issued a warning about a common gift trend. He stated that making money cakes, money flowers, or money bouquets is a crime in Nigeria.
Alieke, who is based in Abuja, explained that these practices are against the law and could result in serious punishment. According to him, anyone caught making or displaying money cakes or bouquets could face at least six months in jail.
Money gifts have become popular in recent years, especially during celebrations like Valentine’s Day, birthdays, and weddings. However, many people are unaware that handling the Nigerian currency in this way is illegal.
The law prohibits spraying, mutilating, or defacing money, and using it to make cakes or flowers falls under this rule.
The lawyer’s warning serves as a reminder for Nigerians to be careful when giving money gifts. Instead of creating money bouquets or cakes, people should consider other ways to present cash gifts without breaking the law.
