Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has given the Head of Local Administration (HOLGA) a 24-hour deadline to explain why salaries have not been paid to key officials in Oredo Local Government.
According to a letter dated February 12, 2025, the governor demanded an urgent response regarding the non-payment of salaries to the council chairman, vice chairman, councillors, and other political appointees. He also asked for any official documents that could justify the delay.
Obaseki stated that those affected include elected council officials such as the chairman, vice chairman, and councillors, as well as the Secretary to the Council, Supervisors, Special Advisers, and Special Assistants.
The letter revealed that councillors were not paid for January 2025, while the chairman, vice chairman, and other officials had not received their salaries for December 2024 and January 2025.
The governor expressed concern over how this issue impacts the officials’ financial stability and the council’s overall performance.
He questioned the administrative and financial management of the council, emphasizing the need for transparency. He urged HOLGA to submit a formal explanation and supporting documents within 24 hours to address the matter.
Obaseki expects a quick response and resolution to ensure that all affected officials receive their rightful salaries.
