Security forces in Abuja have taken down three armed robbers in a deadly shootout. The incident happened late Wednesday night in Filin-Dabo village, following a distress call about a violent robbery.
According to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dei-Dei ‘A’ Division received a call at around 11:50 PM.
The officer quickly mobilized a team, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, military personnel from the 102 Battalion, Guards Brigade, the Civilian Joint Task Force, and local vigilantes.
When the security team arrived, the six-member gang tried to escape into the bushes and launched an attack. However, the security forces responded with stronger firepower, leading to a fierce gun battle.
Three of the robbers were fatally wounded and later confirmed dead at Kubwa General Hospital. The other three, who also sustained injuries, are receiving medical treatment.
During the operation, security officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, nineteen rounds of ammunition, two locally made pistols, two knives, a taser, a mobile phone, assorted charms, and dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.
The police have assured residents that they are committed to keeping the city safe and will continue to go after criminals.
