On Monday, February 10, 2025, the Supreme Court imposed a fine of ₦2 million on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.
The fine was for filing an appeal related to the state’s 2024 budget, which had been declared illegal by a lower court.
The Supreme Court also dismissed Fubara’s appeal, which challenged a ruling about the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The governor had presented the 2024 budget to a different faction led by Martin Amaewhule.
The dismissal came after Fubara’s lawyer, Yusuf Ali, withdrew the suit. As a result, the court decided to fine the governor for bringing the appeal without merit.
