NDLEA foils major drug trafficking attempts in Kano, nabs suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is making strong moves against illegal drug activities in Kano.

In a recent operation, officers stopped major drug shipments and arrested several suspects.

In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that two 23-year-old suspects were caught on February 3 at Gadar Tamburawa on Zaria Road. The officers found 15,396 tramadol pills hidden inside a gas cylinder.

On the same day, another suspect, a 35-year-old woman, was arrested in the Sabon Gari area with 27 blocks of skunk, a type of cannabis, weighing 15kg.

The NDLEA also blocked a shipment of 12,800 tramadol pills that was heading to Shuwarin in Jigawa State.

Officers on patrol along the Kabba-Obajana Highway in Kogi State intercepted the drugs on February 8 and arrested a 33-year-old suspect.

Additionally, the agency seized 65 parcels of Colorado, a synthetic form of cannabis, weighing 1.6kg.

This consignment was meant for Jigawa State, but NDLEA officers stopped it at a checkpoint and detained a 32-year-old suspect.

Apart from making arrests, the NDLEA is also creating awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

The agency has been visiting schools, worship centers, and workplaces to educate people about the risks of drug use.

Recently, the NDLEA held an awareness session at Taangayar Malam Abubakar Bichi, an Almajiri school in Bichi, Kano.

The goal is to reduce drug abuse by educating communities, especially young people, about its dangers.

The NDLEA remains committed to stopping drug trafficking and protecting communities from the harm caused by illegal drugs.
