The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has taken action against two court officials from the Upper Shari’a Court in Gwarzo for corrupt activities.
The decision was made during the Commission’s 79th meeting, led by the Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki.
According to a statement by Judiciary Spokesperson Baba Jibo Ibrahim, Hudu Idris, a court registrar, was found guilty of accepting bribes.
As a result, he was demoted by one grade level and forced to retire. Another official, Abba Bala Gwarzo, who worked as a casual watchman, had his contract terminated immediately.
The disciplinary action was based on an investigation by the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee (JPCC). A petition was submitted by Alhaji Sani Bozo Rimin Gado, who accused the two officials of intimidation and demanding illegal payments. During the investigation, both admitted to collecting N214,000 in bribes.
The Commission adopted the JPCC’s recommendations and took strict measures to uphold judicial integrity.
In another case, the Commission reviewed the suspension of Bilya Abdullahi, Auwalu Ibrahim Khalil, and Ismaila Garba. They were accused of forging a court reversal order.
However, after a police investigation and legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), there was not enough evidence to charge them.
As a result, their suspension was lifted. However, Bilya Abdullahi was given a strong warning to avoid any unethical behavior.
The Kano State Judicial Service Commission emphasized that it will not tolerate corruption or misconduct. It remains committed to maintaining public trust and ensuring fairness in the judicial system.
