Leo Umana, the Executive Director of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS), has spoken out against domestic violence.
He stressed that if couples can no longer live peacefully, it is better to separate rather than resort to violence.
His statement comes in response to domestic violence allegations against Uyo-based wedding journalist Isaac Mefo by his wife, Evelyn.
“If the love is gone, don’t turn to violence. You can separate for a while and return when peace is restored. Say no to domestic violence,” Umana advised.
He further emphasized that no man should hit a woman with his hands or any object. Instead, he encouraged men to express love through care, financial support, and intimacy.
This statement highlights the importance of mutual respect and peaceful conflict resolution in relationships.
Domestic violence should never be an option—choosing separation over violence can help protect lives and restore peace.
