Suspected ISSP jihadists attack supply convoy escorted by military, kill 40 in Mali

At least 40 civilians were killed in an attack on a supply convoy in northern Mali. The convoy, which was under military escort, was ambushed by suspected members of the Islamic State in the Sahel Province (ISSP) along the Ansongo-Gao route.

The incident took place near Kobe, a dangerous area often targeted by armed groups linked to ISSP and Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM).

According to security sources, the attackers used explosive devices and automatic weapons to strike the convoy.

Eyewitnesses reported that the militants opened fire from hidden positions, catching the convoy by surprise.

Despite efforts by the military to fight back, the intensity of the attack led to heavy casualties. The attackers also burned five vehicles before escaping.

This attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Mali, where armed groups frequently target both civilians and security forces.

The region has seen repeated attacks, making transportation of essential supplies increasingly dangerous.

Authorities are expected to strengthen security measures in the area, but the threat of further attacks remains high.
