Real Madrid legend Marcelo has officially retired from football at the age of 36. He announced his decision in a video shared on social media.
Marcelo had an incredible career, spending 19 years at Real Madrid. During that time, he won five Champions League titles and six LaLiga trophies. When he left the club, he was the most decorated player in its 120-year history, winning 25 trophies. However, that record has since been surpassed by Nacho, Luka Modric, and Dani Carvajal.
After hearing the news, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez praised Marcelo, calling him one of the greatest left-backs in football history.
“One of the greatest left-backs in Real Madrid and world football history, and we had the privilege of watching him for a long time,” Perez said.
He also assured Marcelo that Real Madrid will always be his home.
Marcelo himself expressed his love for football, saying that while his playing career has ended, he still has more to offer the sport.
His retirement marks the end of an era, but his legacy at Real Madrid will never be forgotten.
