BUK land crisis: No land is worth human life – Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called for peace and patience in the wake of a violent land dispute in Rimin Zakara, a community in Kano. The clash, involving Bayero University, Kano (BUK), resulted in the tragic loss of lives.

During his visit to the area after returning from pilgrimage, Emir Sanusi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for a swift recovery for those injured. He stressed that no amount of land or property is worth human life and called for unity among the residents.

Emir Sanusi acknowledged that the land dispute, which has been ongoing for years, involves both the Rimin Zakara community and BUK, who both claim ownership of the land. He urged everyone involved to resolve the matter through legal channels and constructive dialogue.

To facilitate the resolution, the Emir announced the formation of a committee that will include representatives from the state government, BUK, security agencies, and community leaders. The committee’s aim is to ensure justice and bring about a fair solution to the issue.

The Emir also warned against the dangers of violence, stating that when violence breaks out, it is the local people who suffer. He reminded the residents that life is more valuable than any land, and they must prioritize peace and work together to avoid further harm.

The dispute escalated recently when security forces reportedly opened fire during the demolition of buildings on the disputed land, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and several injuries. In response, the state government has vowed to investigate the killings and bring justice to those affected.

Emir Sanusi’s message is clear: peace and unity should always come first, and the loss of life is never the answer to any conflict.
