Practice what you preach, Nigeria divided under you – Atiku to Tinubu

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, accusing his government of fostering division in Nigeria.

In a recent statement, Atiku called on Tinubu’s administration to put the country first, pointing out that since Tinubu took office, Nigeria has faced increased ethnic, religious, and social divisions. He believes that instead of working toward uniting the country, Tinubu’s government has continued with a “snatch and grab” approach, focusing on personal gains rather than strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, highlighted a recent incident where Sunday Dare, a spokesperson for the president, shared posts on social media that undermined the efforts of political leaders working to promote democracy. Dare’s comments suggested that political leaders pushing for progress in Nigeria were acting in ways that would harm the nation’s future, which Atiku described as misleading and damaging.

The former Vice President expressed concern over the rhetoric used by Tinubu’s government, particularly their attempt to discredit opposition voices and reduce Nigeria’s democracy to something out of the Dark Ages. Atiku emphasized that such comments threaten the democratic rights and freedoms Nigerians have fought hard to secure.

Atiku also condemned remarks made about Nigeria’s relationship with the United States, particularly regarding trade policies. He stated that mocking the patriotism of Nigerians was a contradiction for a government that claimed to represent the people’s interests and unity.

In closing, Atiku urged President Tinubu to prioritize the unity and healing of the nation, focusing on democratic principles that would benefit all Nigerians, rather than making divisive statements or indulging in unnecessary political battles.
