On Thursday, a Russian drone struck a multi-storey apartment building in Sumy, a city in northeastern Ukraine. The attack killed at least four people and injured at least nine, including a child. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as a “terrible tragedy” and urged the world to continue putting pressure on Russia.
The Ukrainian military reported that overnight, Russia launched 81 drones at various locations in Ukraine. While 37 of these drones were shot down and 39 failed to reach their targets, the remaining five drones’ fate is unknown.
Governor Volodymyr Artyukh shared a video showing emergency responders working to rescue people trapped in the debris. The attack destroyed five apartments and damaged over 20 cars. Emergency teams worked through the morning to search for survivors in the rubble.
In addition to Sumy, Russian drones targeted the Odesa region, damaging a grain warehouse, a hospital, and two private homes. However, no one was injured in this attack.
While Russia denies targeting civilians, the war, which started in February 2022, has caused significant loss of life and suffering in Ukraine.
