Gang members supplying motorcycles to Boko Haram, bandits arrested

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a group responsible for supplying stolen motorcycles to Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in northern Nigeria. This operation was carried out based on credible intelligence, leading to the capture of three suspects in Suleja, Niger State.

According to Assistant Inspector General of Police Benneth Igweh, the suspects specialized in stealing, modifying, and selling motorcycles to criminals. The police recovered 22 stolen motorcycles, several master keys, and mobile phones from them.

The arrested individuals include:

  • Shamsuddeen Yunusa (30): The leader of the gang, who sold stolen motorcycles for ₦200,000 to ₦250,000. He recently received ₦250,000 from a buyer named Ibrahim Kabiru, based in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.
  • Zaharadeen Saidu (25): The courier who transported motorcycles to buyers. He confessed to delivering motorcycles from Shamsuddeen to Mustapha Haruna in Suleja.
  • Mustapha Haruna (22): The mechanic who repaired and modified stolen motorcycles before selling them.

The police confirmed that the gang had been supplying motorcycles to criminal groups, including Boko Haram members and bandits operating in Niger and Kaduna states. Their arrests mark a significant step in stopping the movement of stolen vehicles used for illegal activities.

The Nigeria Police Force assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that they will continue working to curb crime and terrorism in the region.
