The Federal Government of Nigeria generated about N2.4 billion in 2024 from marriage registrations through the Ministry of Interior’s marriage registry.
This was announced by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a press briefing in Abuja on January 28.
According to the Minister, the ministry also earned over N3.2 billion from expatriate quota applications, bringing the total revenue increase to 150% compared to previous years.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo further revealed that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) repatriated 828 foreigners in 2024. While he did not give details about their offences, the repatriation was part of the government’s efforts to ensure compliance with immigration laws.
The Ministry’s success in 2024 reflects its significant contribution to Nigeria’s economy and efforts to uphold law and order.
