Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican congressman from Tennessee, has introduced a proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution and allow former President Donald Trump to run for a third term. Ogles believes that Trump’s leadership is essential to reversing the nation’s challenges and restoring prosperity.

The proposed amendment, announced on January 23, suggests that a person could serve three terms as president. However, they cannot serve more than two terms in a row. This would override the 22nd Amendment, which currently limits presidents to two terms.

Ogles expressed his support for Trump, saying his leadership is in stark contrast to the “chaos, suffering, and economic decline” of the past few years. He added, “Trump is the only figure in modern history capable of reversing America’s decline and bringing back greatness.”

Trump himself joked about serving a third term after his 2024 re-election, saying to House Republicans, “I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you do something… unless you say, ‘He’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’” His comments were not taken seriously, with Rep. Tim Burchett stating, “That was clearly a joke.”

Despite the humor in Trump’s remarks, Ogles is serious about his proposal. He highlighted Trump’s recent actions, including executive orders addressing border security, energy production, and leaving the World Health Organization, as evidence of strong leadership.

Ogles believes that these bold moves show Trump’s ability to lead and bring the country back on track. While this amendment would be a significant shift in U.S. politics, it reflects ongoing debates about leadership and the future direction of the nation.
