The police in Rivers State have arrested two pastors, Prophet Bassey Umoren, aged 60, and Prophet Elijah Anietie, aged 50, after unusual and fetish items were found in their churches.

The pastors, who lead God’s Deliverance Apostolic Church and Power House of Glory International Gospel Church, were arrested in Rumunduru, a community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Their churches are located along Eneka Road in the community.

The arrest happened on January 20, 2025, after local youths, led by their youth leader, Henry Worlu, reported their activities to the police. According to Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, the youths handed over the pastors to the police for further investigation.

When the police searched the churches, they found several disturbing items. These included small caskets, monkey skulls, carved skeletons, wooden crosses, spiritual books, and photographs—some of which were of children.

The police have launched a full investigation to understand the extent of the pastors’ activities and identify any possible victims. Meanwhile, the people of Rumunduru have been praised for their vigilance in uncovering what they called a spiritual and social threat to their community.

This shocking discovery has left many residents worried and eager to see justice served.
