President Tinubu Appoints Opeifa As NRC Managing Director

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Kayode Opeifa as the new Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC). Opeifa replaces Ben Iloanusi, who had served as the acting Managing Director since October 2024. The position became vacant after Fidet Okhiria completed his second term.

Kayode Opeifa is known for his work in transforming Nigeria’s transportation systems. As the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation during Babatunde Fashola’s administration, Opeifa introduced policies that modernized traffic management. These initiatives turned Lagos into a model for urban transport across Africa.

Opeifa’s achievements extended to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where he served as Transport Secretary under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He also played a key role as Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Team (PTT) that tackled Lagos’ Apapa port gridlock. Working with former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Opeifa helped implement long-term solutions to ease congestion at one of Nigeria’s busiest trade hubs.

As the new NRC Managing Director, Opeifa is expected to bring his wealth of experience to improving Nigeria’s railway infrastructure. His leadership will likely focus on modernizing rail services to meet the country’s growing transportation needs.

This appointment reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s transport sector and underscores Opeifa’s reputation as an expert in the field.
