PDP crisis: I would’ve disowned Wabara if he was my father – Wike

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), recently shared his strong opinion on the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Wike accused Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), of being a key figure in stoking tensions within the party.

In a bold statement during a media chat in Abuja, Wike said that if Wabara were his father, he would have disowned him. He criticized Wabara for his role in the party’s difficulties and claimed his actions have hurt the party’s chances of moving forward. Wike also recalled how former President Olusegun Obasanjo had once publicly criticized Wabara for acts of corruption.

Wike didn’t hold back in calling out PDP leaders who are trying to push out Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Sam Anyanwu. Despite court rulings supporting their positions, some leaders have pushed for their removal. Wike pointed out that such actions are against the party’s rules, which require elections to replace any resigned officials.

Wike expressed that while some members might be attempting to bypass the proper process, it’s important to respect the rule of law and let the courts decide. He emphasized the need for the PDP to focus on resolving internal conflicts and preparing for the upcoming convention, rather than creating more chaos. Wike urged the party to hold the convention as planned in December and elect a new executive to bring stability to the party.

As tensions rise within the PDP, Wike’s remarks highlight the challenges the party faces as it looks to rebuild and move forward.
