Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a time to honor the sacrifices of our military personnel, both fallen and living. Engr Chidi Anokwu, a social crusader and the International President of De Norsemen Kclub International, recently used the occasion to urge Nigerians to respect and support military men and women who risk their lives daily to keep the country safe.
In the past few days, several soldiers have tragically lost their lives while protecting communities under threat. Speaking in Port Harcourt, Anokwu condemned these unprovoked killings and reminded Nigerians of the immense sacrifices made by the armed forces.
“Our soldiers are not just professionals; they are family members, friends, and above all, human beings. They deserve respect and care,” Anokwu said. “While we sleep peacefully, they remain vigilant, often in harsh conditions, to keep us safe. We must support them in every way possible.”
Anokwu also called for improved welfare for the military. He urged the government to provide better living conditions, modern equipment to combat insecurity, and to address misconduct within the ranks. He praised the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for renaming the event “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day” to include honoring living soldiers.
He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to provide credible information to help the military combat criminals, emphasizing the collective role of citizens in protecting military lives.
As we remember the fallen heroes, let us also appreciate and support those who continue to serve. Their sacrifices ensure the peace and unity we often take for granted.
