In recent times, the issue of insecurity in Nigeria has become a major concern, with cases of kidnapping and killings on the rise. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, has expressed deep worry over this alarming trend.

Reacting to recent incidents, Obi condemned the kidnapping of two Catholic reverend sisters along Ufuma Road in Anambra State. He also mourned the killing of the Manager of the College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala. According to him, these acts are part of a growing wave of crime affecting every corner of the country.

Obi highlighted how insecurity has impacted all sectors of the economy, especially agriculture, education, and healthcare. Farmers are being forced to abandon their fields due to threats, while teachers, lecturers, and medical professionals are increasingly becoming targets of kidnappers and criminals.

“These victims play vital roles in the development of our country. Farmers provide food, teachers educate our children, and healthcare workers save lives. The kidnapping and killing of these people disrupt the progress of our nation,” Obi explained.

He further emphasized that no one is safe, adding that for every reported case of kidnapping or murder, there are likely many more that go unreported. This, he said, shows how urgent the need is for action to restore security.

Obi appealed to the government to use every available resource to combat this growing menace. He urged leaders to prioritize the safety of citizens and work tirelessly to rescue those in captivity. For Nigeria to thrive, ensuring the security of its people is a necessity.
