Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, has once again spoken about why he believes Nigeria should separate into different nations. Speaking in a video recorded at a UK airport, Igboho pointed out the lack of security at Nigerian airports as an example of the country’s deep-rooted problems.

According to him, the insecurity in Nigeria makes it unsafe for travelers, even at airports where belongings can easily be stolen due to poor security measures. This, he says, is one of the many reasons Nigerians feel ashamed to identify with their country.

“Even inside the airport, there is no security. They can steal your belongings from your bag. These issues discourage people from being proud of Nigeria,” Igboho said. He added that if Nigeria cannot function as one nation, it would be better for ethnic groups like the Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa to go their separate ways.

Sunday Igboho has been advocating for the Yoruba Nation’s independence for many years. In April 2024, he and others sent a letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to form a negotiation team to discuss the Yoruba people’s exit from Nigeria.

The demand for separation isn’t new. Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has also been a strong voice for the independence of the Igbo people. Despite growing calls for his release, Kanu remains in detention by the Nigerian government.

Many Nigerians share Igboho’s frustrations, citing insecurity, poor governance, and corruption as reasons why the country is struggling. As the agitation for independence continues, the debate over Nigeria’s future as one nation grows louder.
