Former KASCO MD accuses Kano anti-corruption agency of defying court order

Dr. Bala Inuwa, the former Managing Director of the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), has accused the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission of ignoring a court order. According to Inuwa, the agency unlawfully seized his assets, including trailers, fertilizer grinding machines, and other agricultural equipment, even though a High Court had already issued an injunction preventing such actions.

The court order, issued by Justice Aisha Ya’u in case number K/M 1563/2024, was clear: the police and anti-corruption commission were not allowed to interfere with Inuwa’s property until the court case was decided. The court stated that the actions taken by the commission, such as forced entry and deploying police officers, violated Inuwa’s constitutional rights.

Despite this ruling, Inuwa claims the commission continued to act, which led him to seek an interim injunction. This legal step was taken to stop further actions by the commission and preserve the current situation until the case is fully resolved.

In response, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, the Chairman of the Kano anti-corruption commission, dismissed Inuwa’s claims. He argued that the court orders were temporary and had already expired. He added that the orders only applied to police officers, who are no longer involved in the case. The commission is now using personnel from the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), in accordance with the commission’s legal powers.

This ongoing dispute raises concerns about the respect for court orders and the potential abuse of power by government agencies.
