Court grants N10m bail to woman who allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu, IGP

The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a N10 million bail for Olamide Thomas, a woman accused of threatening Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigeria’s President, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Justice Emeka Nwite, while ruling on the bail application, stated that there was no strong evidence from the prosecution showing that Thomas would avoid trial if granted bail. He explained that bail ensures fairness in cases where the defendant is unlikely to disrupt proceedings.

As part of the bail terms, Thomas must provide a surety with the same N10 million value. The surety is required to:

  • Live within the court’s jurisdiction.
  • Present a three-year tax clearance certificate.
  • Submit two recent passport photographs.
  • Swear an affidavit confirming their financial capacity.

The court further instructed that the surety’s address must be verified before bail is finalized.

Thomas was initially arraigned on December 20, 2024, on charges of making death threats against Seyi Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, via a viral social media post. She pleaded not guilty and was remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre.

The trial has been scheduled to begin on February 18, 2025.
