The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has made it clear that attacks on police officers will no longer be tolerated. During his two-day visit to the Enugu State Police Command, Egbetokun warned against assaults and killings of police personnel, labeling such acts as criminal.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Police Force will adopt a zero-tolerance policy for these crimes in 2025. “Any attack on a police officer is an attack on me, the IGP,” he said, urging officers to respond appropriately to any such incidents.

The IGP outlined plans for extensive training and retraining programs for police personnel across the country. These programs aim to enhance professionalism, discipline, and competency within the force. “We are focusing on building a more professional and disciplined police force in 2025,” he added.

Egbetokun also highlighted the commitment of President Bola Tinubu to the welfare of police personnel. According to him, the President is working on a robust welfare package to address the needs and concerns of the police force. While the details remain confidential, the IGP assured officers that their sacrifices for national security are appreciated.

During his visit, the IGP praised the Enugu State Police Command for its achievements in maintaining security in 2024. He promised additional resources, personnel, and operational support to help the command achieve even greater success in 2025.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, expressed gratitude for the IGP’s support and called for more equipment, vehicles, and personnel to bolster their efforts in fighting crime.

The IGP’s visit underscores a renewed commitment to protecting police officers and ensuring a safer environment for all Nigerians.
