Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has criticized the role of Northern elders in Nigeria’s political process.
Kwankwaso expressed concern that the influence of these elders in selecting candidates for political positions is weakening Nigeria’s democracy. He explained that democracy works best when people have the freedom to choose their leaders without interference. However, he believes the actions of Northern elders are limiting the choices available to voters and discouraging fair competition.
He also highlighted the importance of fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in the electoral process. Kwankwaso called on all political stakeholders to prioritize the people’s will and promote democratic values. He emphasized that a strong democracy can only be achieved when the voices of citizens are respected and their choices reflected in leadership decisions.
Kwankwaso’s remarks serve as a reminder of the need to protect democratic principles in Nigeria’s political landscape.
