Gov Mohammed inaugurates 500-man Bauchi Road Traffic Agency

Governor Bala Mohammed has officially launched the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) to address road safety and traffic management challenges in the state. As part of the initiative, 500 cadets and traffic marshals were inaugurated on Saturday during a passing-out parade.

The governor emphasized the importance of professionalism among the new officers, urging them to avoid corruption, indiscipline, and abuse of power. He described the recruits as disciplined and committed individuals ready to bring positive change to road safety in Bauchi.

“Our commitment to road safety remains strong. These officers will operate with integrity and professionalism. Every accident prevented and every life saved is a reflection of their dedication,” Governor Mohammed said.

The governor expressed concern over the increasing road accidents, traffic congestion, and general disorder across the state. In response, the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency Bill was presented to the State House of Assembly in 2020. After its passage, BAROTA was officially established as a legal body to enforce traffic laws and ensure safer roads.

Governor Mohammed highlighted the agency’s role in managing traffic, enforcing regulations, and safeguarding lives. He pledged to equip BAROTA with modern technology, infrastructure, and resources to improve efficiency.

The governor announced plans to expand BAROTA’s workforce to 2,000 personnel as part of his administration’s focus on youth empowerment and human capital development. He also directed all 20 local government councils in Bauchi to establish BAROTA offices to strengthen the agency’s operations statewide.

In addition, Governor Mohammed called for collaboration between BAROTA and key stakeholders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), local governments, and the Ministry of Works and Transport, to ensure smooth coordination and effective traffic management.

BAROTA’s Director-General, Ahmed Tijjani Baba Gamawa, assured the public that the agency’s officers would operate within the law. He emphasized that the training provided to the cadets adhered to international standards and global best practices.

The launch of BAROTA reflects the state government’s dedication to reducing road accidents, saving lives, and ensuring safer and more organized roads in Bauchi.
