Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, the former Governor of Sokoto State, has raised concerns about the growing threat posed by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji. According to Bafarawa, Turji and his gang have been terrorizing communities along the Zamfara-Sokoto border, causing widespread fear and disruption.
In an interview with RFI Hausa, Bafarawa called on the government to step in and stop the violence. He emphasized the severity of the situation, pointing out that if someone like Turji can create such chaos, it’s clear that urgent action is needed.
Bafarawa said, “If an individual like Turji can cause so much destruction and block movement in our communities, then the government must act.”
Recently, Turji made a chilling threat, warning that if his relatives, who are currently detained, are not released by January 1, 2025, he would begin a violent campaign. In a video message, he threatened to start by killing people in Shinkafi and then demand ransom, promising ongoing violence until his demands are met.
Bafarawa’s warning highlights the dangerous situation in the region, and his call for government intervention comes at a crucial time as the community faces increasing threats from Turji’s gang.
