Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has voiced his strong support for the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu, assuring Nigerians that these changes will yield long-term benefits. During a New Year’s visit to Chief Daniel Eke, a former governorship aspirant in Abia State, Kalu emphasized that overhauling Nigeria’s outdated laws is essential for addressing current economic challenges.
Kalu described Tinubu’s tax reform bills as a bold move toward progress. While he acknowledged the frustration caused by insufficient public education about the reforms, he maintained that such changes were unavoidable. He urged Nigerians to view the reforms as a path toward a stronger economy, encouraging citizens to give the President a chance.
“The tax reform is not a bad bill; it is progressive. But Nigerians need more orientation to understand its benefits,” Kalu explained.
Kalu advocated for increased competition among Nigeria’s 36 states, likening this approach to China’s economic model. He argued that fostering state-level competition would lead to better resource management, higher productivity, and overall national growth.
“Nigeria must adopt economic competition among states to grow. Sharing free money in Abuja cannot continue,” he remarked.
Recognizing the pain caused by ongoing economic reforms, Kalu urged Nigerians to remain patient. He expressed confidence that the challenges are temporary and that brighter days lie ahead.
“I understand the difficulties Nigerians are facing, but these reforms are necessary. There is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Chief Daniel Eke praised Kalu’s contributions to Abia-North, highlighting his dedication to infrastructure, employment, and industrial development.
“While others focus on giveaways, Senator Kalu invests in companies that create jobs for our people,” Eke noted.
Kalu reaffirmed his dedication to delivering meaningful change for his constituents. He stated that he had set aside his private business ventures to focus on his duties as a senator.
“I will continue to prioritize the needs of my people. Serving as a senator is a sacred responsibility,” Kalu concluded.
As Nigerians navigate the effects of Tinubu’s reforms, Kalu remains optimistic about the nation’s future, urging unity and resilience to achieve lasting progress.
