Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and a frequent critic of Peter Obi, has sparked conversations with his recent remarks about the former Labour Party presidential candidate. In an Instagram post, Reno praised Peter Obi as the most influential opposition figure in Nigeria, saying anyone who thinks they hold more sway than Obi is “deluded.”
This comment is widely interpreted as a dig at Atiku Abubakar, Reno’s former principal and a prominent opposition leader during the 2023 elections. Reno acknowledged Peter Obi’s resilience and determination, noting that he has managed to remain relevant despite numerous challenges.
However, Reno also pointed out areas where he believes Obi needs improvement. He criticized Obi for being overly focused on his Igbo roots and mentioned controversial comments Obi allegedly made, including the “Yes Daddy” remark and a statement about a “religious war.” Reno suggested that Obi should address these issues, apologize where necessary, and guide his supporters to adopt a more respectful tone.
In his post, Reno also claimed that some opposition leaders have already been politically sidelined by Obi’s growing influence, even if they are unaware of it. Despite his critique, Reno’s remarks highlight Peter Obi’s prominence in Nigeria’s political scene and the challenges ahead for other opposition leaders.
