The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced planned power interruptions in several parts of Abuja. These outages will take place from January 6 to January 21, 2025.
According to AEDC, the disruptions are due to the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) relocating two major power lines: the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers. The relocation work is happening along the Outer Southern Motorway and will temporarily affect electricity supply to certain areas.
Residents and businesses in the following locations should expect power outages during this period:
- Lugbe and environs
- Airport Road
- Kapwa
- NNPC
- Games Village
- National Stadium
- Eye Clinic
- Indoor Complex
- Christ Embassy Church
- American International School
- Spring Court
- American Embassy Quarters
- EFCC Headquarters
- Coca Cola
- Railway
- FMC
- Parts of Apo, Gudu, Gbazango, Kubwa, Bwari, Jahi, and Jabi
- Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi, and nearby areas
AEDC explained that the relocation of these critical power lines is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements by the FCDA. While the outages may cause inconvenience, the upgrades aim to enhance power distribution in the long run.
If you live or work in any of the affected areas, consider the following tips:
- Plan ahead to manage your electricity needs during the outage.
- Charge essential devices and power banks in advance.
- Stock up on batteries, candles, and other emergency lighting supplies.
- Use fuel-powered generators with caution, ensuring proper ventilation.
AEDC assures residents that the outages are temporary and urges everyone to bear with them as they work towards improving power services in Abuja.
