Burna Boy, a well-known Nigerian singer, has clarified why he kicked a fan during his performance at the 2025 Lagos Countdown concert.
A video of the incident, which showed the artist leaving the stage after kicking a fan who tried to touch him, quickly went viral. The footage sparked online debates, with many criticizing Burna Boy and calling him arrogant.
Responding to the controversy on Instagram, Burna Boy revealed that he has PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and reminded fans about his long-standing rule of not getting too close during performances.
He shared, “It was a free show. I was supposed to perform for 10 minutes but stayed on stage for almost an hour. Everyone knows my rule—don’t startle me while I’m performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. But don’t jump on my stage like that! I’ve got PTSD. I love you all. Happy New Year.”
PTSD is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It often causes individuals to react strongly to sudden or unexpected situations.
Burna Boy’s statement sheds light on how mental health can affect artists during live performances and highlights the importance of respecting personal boundaries.
