On December 26, 2024, a shocking incident unfolded at Najob Guest House in Bwari, Abuja. A heated argument between two friends turned violent when 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe shot his friend, 29-year-old Andrew Philemon, with a pump-action rifle.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command responded quickly after receiving a distress call. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Andrew bleeding from serious gunshot wounds. Obinna claimed he acted in self-defense during their argument.
After arresting Obinna, the police conducted a raid on his residence, leading to a startling discovery of weapons and other items. These included:
- Five Dane guns
- An English-made single-barrel gun
- An AK-47 magazine with 29 live rounds of ammunition
- Four live cartridges and 17 used cartridges
- A bow with arrows
- Various knives, a sword-stick, and a toy gun
- A taser and a bulletproof jacket
- Multiple sets of police uniforms and boots
Andrew Philemon is receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja, while the police continue their investigation. FCT Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, confirmed that Obinna would face charges once the investigation is completed.
This incident highlights the dangers of unchecked access to weapons and the need for swift action by law enforcement.
