APC will claim Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, A’Ibom – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has explained why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio said his decision was aimed at helping the APC gain control of all South-South states before the 2027 elections. He shared this during a visit by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio emphasized that the move would ensure better development for the South-South region. He stated, “Joining the APC was a strategic step to position our region at the national level and influence decisions for the benefit of our people. The ruling APC is working to win more states based on current political dynamics.”

The PDP currently governs four South-South states—Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta—while the APC controls only Edo State. Akpabio believes that uniting the region under APC leadership would bring lasting change and progress.
