Gov Fintiri Cuts Lamido Of Adamawa’s Influence, Creates New Emirates, Chiefdoms

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has introduced significant changes to the state’s traditional system by creating new chiefdoms and emirates. This move is aimed at strengthening traditional institutions, improving local governance, and fostering peace across the state.

In his statewide address on Monday, the governor announced the establishment of four second-class chiefdoms:

  • Hoba Chiefdom based in Hong
  • Madagali Chiefdom headquartered in Gulak
  • Michika Chiefdom with its center in Michika
  • Fofure Chiefdom based in Fofure

Additionally, a third-class chiefdom has been created for Gombi, with its headquarters in Gombi town. Maiha Emirate will now have its base in Maiha, while Yungur Chiefdom, headquartered in Dumne, has also been elevated to third-class status.

These changes were made possible through the Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2024. Governor Fintiri emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in resolving disputes, managing ungoverned areas, and strengthening security through local intelligence gathering.

“This restructuring will not only enhance our traditional systems but also bring dignity to our people and promote social cohesion,” Governor Fintiri remarked.

He also assured citizens that the process of creating additional chiefdoms and emirates would continue to address genuine demands from other communities.

This initiative highlights the role of traditional institutions in fostering peace, improving governance, and ensuring development at the grassroots level.
