Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has voiced his concerns over the tax reform bills introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He warned that the policies could create serious unrest if not adjusted.
Speaking to the Christian community in Bauchi State, Governor Mohammed said the reforms unfairly favor one region and could leave Northern states unable to meet financial obligations, like paying workers’ salaries.
President Tinubu, however, has made it clear that the reforms are here to stay. During a recent media chat, he said the changes might not please everyone, but they are necessary for the country’s growth.
Despite Tinubu’s firm stance, opposition from Northern leaders and lawmakers has grown. In response, the President has expressed willingness to negotiate, signaling that adjustments to the bills could be possible.
This ongoing debate highlights the challenges of implementing nationwide reforms while addressing regional concerns. Nigerians are now waiting to see how these issues will be resolved.
