Dele Farotimi, a Lagos-based lawyer and activist, continues to stand strong despite facing serious legal challenges. Farotimi, who has been outspoken about injustices in Nigeria, is currently battling defamation charges. However, he remains firm in his position and refuses to be intimidated by the ongoing trials.
On December 24, Farotimi was released from a correctional facility in Ekiti State after meeting his bail conditions. He faces 14 charges, including criminal defamation, after allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a senior advocate of Nigeria, in his book Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System. Farotimi has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
In a statement shared on his X page, Farotimi remained defiant, showing no signs of backing down from his stance on the issues he cares about. He is currently facing trial in two different courts for the alleged defamation.
Earlier, on December 9, the Federal High Court in Ekiti granted Farotimi bail, set at ₦50 million with one surety, after he was charged with cybercrime by the Inspector-General of Police. Despite these legal hurdles, Farotimi continues to stand firm in his belief that the system needs reform, and he is determined to keep speaking out.
Farotimi’s ongoing fight highlights his dedication to his cause and his resilience in the face of adversity. Even with the legal battles ahead, he is not backing down from his mission to challenge the system and speak out against what he perceives as injustice.
