Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker from Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu for his decision not to investigate military spending during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Sani expressed his disappointment with Tinubu’s statement that he wasn’t interested in looking into military expenditures under Buhari. According to Sani, this refusal is like rewarding corruption and theft.
Sani pointed out the contradiction in Tinubu’s stance, especially since the President has shown interest in probing the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under former governor Godwin Emefiele. He argued that if the President is willing to investigate financial mismanagement in one area, he should also be willing to do the same in others, particularly in the security and defense sector.
The former lawmaker emphasized that it is crucial to go back and examine how public funds have been misused, especially in sensitive areas like defense. He believes that if there is evidence of corruption in military spending, steps should be taken to recover the stolen funds.
Sani also called for accountability from President Tinubu and his ministers, insisting that since the President has praised the performance of his cabinet members, they should be held responsible for their actions and decisions.
By choosing not to investigate military spending, Sani argues that Tinubu is missing an important opportunity to address corruption and ensure that public funds are properly managed for the benefit of the country.
