The Nigerian Army has made significant strides in the fight against oil theft in the Niger Delta, seizing over 130,000 litres of stolen oil and arresting ten oil thieves. This latest operation, carried out by troops from the 6th Division in collaboration with other security agencies, targeted illegal oil refining activities in several areas.
In Rivers State, the army dismantled 37 illegal refining sites and destroyed six boats used for the operation. Among the recovered items were 50,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 5,000 litres of refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and 6,250 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK). In one area, nine illegal refining sites were destroyed, along with 60,000 litres of stolen oil.
The army also carried out operations in other regions like Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States. In Bayelsa, a site with 2,000 litres of stolen crude was shut down. In Delta, troops intercepted a tanker truck attempting to steal oil from a pipeline, arresting four suspects.
The Nigerian Army continues to strengthen its efforts to stop oil theft in the region, securing both land and water routes from criminals.
