A major fire broke out at Afia Nkwo Market in Isiama Ohafia, Abia State, early on Friday morning, destroying several shops and goods worth millions of naira.
Many traders who had recently restocked their shops in preparation for the busy Christmas and New Year sales were left devastated when they returned to find their businesses destroyed. These traders are now calling on the Abia State government for help to recover from their losses.
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, who is from Ohafia, has expressed deep sympathy for the victims. He promised to visit the market to assess the damage firsthand and discuss how the government can provide support and assist in rebuilding the market.
Though the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the government has assured the public that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. The safety and well-being of the people of Abia State remain a top priority for the government.
