The victim, 25-year-old Nontobeko Cele, was found with what appeared to be stab wounds on her neck, lying lifeless on the ground.

On December 17, 2024, Lawrence posted a disturbing video online where he admitted to killing Nontobeko. He claimed the murder was a result of her desire to leave him after receiving money from the Road Accident Fund (RAF). In the video, Lawrence also tried to explain that their relationship had been troubled, which he said pushed him to commit the crime. The chilling video quickly went viral, shocking many people who watched it.

The following morning, December 18, 2024, Lawrence was found dead, hanging from a tree in the Malangeni area of Umzinto, close to where he had killed Nontobeko. Police were alerted to the scene after the murder, where they discovered Nontobeko’s bloodied body lying on a gravel road. A broken knife was also found nearby, suggesting the brutal nature of the attack. Investigators believe the incident escalated from a domestic dispute between the couple.
