Latvian basketball player Janis Timma has tragically been found dead in Moscow. Reports state the 32-year-old fell from a high-rise apartment building. His body was discovered in the stairwell of the residential complex.
The incident happened on Monday, which coincidentally was the birthday of Timma’s ex-wife, Ukrainian singer and actress Anna Sedokova. A phone with a message from Sedokova was reportedly found next to him.
Authorities have ruled the preliminary cause of death as suicide. Timma and Sedokova married in 2020 but separated earlier this year after Sedokova filed for divorce. Following the news, a heartbroken Sedokova shared an emotional message on Instagram.
Janis Timma’s Basketball Career
Timma had a successful basketball career, playing for top European clubs such as Zenit Saint Petersburg and Olympiacos in the EuroLeague. He also made a mark in the NBA, being drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013 before being traded to the Orlando Magic. Timma participated in the 2021 NBA Summer League.
On the international stage, Timma proudly represented Latvia in junior and senior tournaments. He was part of the team that earned a bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA U18 European Championship. Since his senior team debut in 2014, Timma played 35 matches, scoring a total of 338 points for his national team.
The basketball world mourns the loss of such a talented and accomplished player. His untimely death has left fans, teammates, and loved ones devastated.
