A deadly crash occurred today on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, leaving one person dead and five others injured. The accident happened near Ilubirin, heading towards Sura, when a J5 Ford bus and a Mercedes truck collided.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, saying the J5 Ford bus, which was carrying pepper and other perishable goods, suffered a brake failure while traveling at high speed. This led to a crash with the Mercedes truck.
Tragically, one person, trapped inside the Ford bus, died from their injuries. Emergency teams, including LASTMA, the Lasema Response Unit (LRU), and the Nigerian Police, rushed to the scene. They worked together to rescue four victims, with three of them surviving the crash.
The injured were quickly taken to the General Hospital on Lagos Island for medical care. In a coordinated effort to clear the scene, LASTMA ensured the accident site was cleared, allowing traffic to flow smoothly once again.
This incident highlights the dangers of driving at high speeds and the importance of maintaining vehicles, particularly the brakes. LASTMA and other emergency teams responded quickly to ensure the safety of those affected and restore order on the busy bridge.
