Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince, is a famous Nigerian rapper and singer who recently opened up about his experience in prison.
In September 2022, a Lagos State magistrate court ordered Ice Prince to be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre. He was accused of assaulting a police officer during a stop-and-search operation.
Fortunately, the rapper regained his freedom after fulfilling the court’s bail requirements.
Ice Prince reflected on this experience during the latest episode of the ‘Listen’ podcast, describing his time in prison as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
“The story you’ve heard isn’t what actually happened,” he clarified. “Since the case is now closed, I can finally speak about it. I spent six days in prison. There was no special treatment for me, and it wasn’t just a police cell—it was a real prison.”
The rapper also criticized public figures who exaggerate their time in police custody. “Some celebrities act like spending time in a police cell is a big deal. But if you haven’t been to prison, you haven’t seen anything. It’s a completely different world, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone—not even my worst enemy,” he said.
Ice Prince emphasized the need to be cautious, adding that innocent people are often imprisoned. However, he admitted that he formed meaningful connections with other inmates. “I made friends, and we hung out and talked. Prison feels like another type of school,” he explained.
On the events that led to his arrest, Ice Prince clarified that he was joking with the police officer during a routine stop-and-search. The situation escalated when he drove off with the officer still inside his car.
This eye-opening experience taught Ice Prince the importance of being careful and avoiding situations that could lead to trouble.
