Nigerian musician Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, has officially announced his decision to part ways with Dapper Music, the record label that helped elevate his career in 2023. The singer shared the news on December 11, 2024, revealing that the split was a result of serious issues involving mishandled finances and violations of his artist rights.

In a statement on Instagram, Shallipopi explained that his decision was not made lightly but was necessary after his trust in the label was broken. He accused Dapper Music of mishandling his finances and disregarding his rights as an artist. “This is about standing up for fairness, integrity, and respect,” he wrote, stressing that his actions were for every artist who faces exploitation in the industry.

One of the major issues he raised was his forced involvement with Dvpper Digital, a company also owned by the same people behind Dapper Music. Shallipopi claimed that the label pushed him into a deal with Dvpper Digital, which involved receiving advances under his name and catalogue. However, the money was reportedly misused without his knowledge or consent, leading to a growing debt that has yet to be fully accounted for.

The fallout is significant, as Shallipopi has removed all references to Dapper Music from his social media profiles and unfollowed the label’s boss. His exit comes shortly after launching his own label, Plutomania Records, which has already signed up-and-coming artists Zerry DL and Tega Boi.

This move is seen as a step towards independence and a new direction in his music career. Shallipopi’s departure follows a similar exit by another popular artist, Seyi Vibez, who also left Dapper Music earlier this year.
