President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shared his vision for Nigeria to become one of the top agricultural exporters in the world by 2025. Speaking at the Road to South-South National Convergence for Renewed Hope Agenda event in Abuja, the President highlighted the role agriculture can play in reshaping Nigeria’s economy.
Represented by Abubakar Momoh, the Minister of Regional Development, Tinubu explained his strategy for improving food security and boosting economic growth through the Project Earn from the Soil initiative. This program aims to transform Nigeria from subsistence farming to a thriving export-driven agricultural sector, which will create jobs and enhance the country’s global trade.
According to Tinubu, the goal is clear: by 2025, Nigeria will be a leader in agricultural exports. The President assured that his administration would provide all necessary support for the successful implementation of the Earn from the Soil project.
Tinubu also pointed out the South-South region’s untapped potential. While the region is well known for its oil and gas resources, it also has a wealth of natural resources, a rich culture, and talented people. These factors, he believes, can play a significant role in Nigeria’s economic success.
The event also launched the National Convergence for the Renewed Hope Agenda, a blueprint aimed at stimulating economic development across the country, with a particular focus on the South-South region. Minister Momoh praised the program, calling it a key step in Nigeria’s economic transformation.
The Impact Report released at the event highlighted progress made under the Renewed Hope Agenda, showcasing initiatives that have empowered local communities, youth, and women in the South-South region.
Dr. Josephine Johnbull, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (South-South), praised grassroots communities for their role in driving development. She emphasized that youth and women are vital in shaping Nigeria’s future and urged everyone to contribute to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The event concluded with calls for greater cooperation to fully harness the resources of the South-South region, positioning it as a key player in Nigeria’s economic growth.
