The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has named Nigeria’s Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as the Chairman of its Board of Governors for the year 2025. This announcement was made following the 189th OPEC Conference, and confirmed in a statement by Nneamaka Okafor, a media aide to Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri.
Prior to this role, Adeyemi-Bero had already been confirmed as Nigeria’s OPEC Governor for 2025. His appointment as Board Chairman provides Nigeria with an important opportunity to advocate for energy policies that benefit oil-producing countries, consumers, and the global economy.
Senator Lokpobiri expressed his excitement about Adeyemi-Bero’s appointment, highlighting it as a recognition of Nigeria’s significant role in the global oil industry. He also thanked the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, for his dedicated service and efforts in promoting Nigeria’s interests within the organization.
Alongside this, Saudi Arabia’s OPEC Governor, Eng. Adeeb Al-Aama, was named the Alternate Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025. In addition, OPEC confirmed an extension for its Secretary-General, Haitham Al Ghais, for another three-year term starting August 1, 2025.
This development shows Nigeria’s continued influence in shaping key global energy discussions.
