American rapper Jay-Z has addressed serious allegations against him, firmly denying claims of involvement in a 2000 incident where he and Sean “Diddy” Combs were accused of assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The lawsuit, filed by attorney Tony Buzbee, alleges the incident occurred after the MTV Video Music Awards.
The case was initially filed anonymously, but Jay-Z was recently added as a defendant. While some lawsuits were dismissed due to plaintiffs declining to reveal their identities, a judge ruled that the alleged victim in this case could proceed anonymously.
Jay-Z released a statement through Roc Nation, where he denied the accusations and labeled them as part of a blackmail attempt. He stated, “My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee.”
Jay-Z accused Buzbee of pursuing the case for personal gain, explaining that the allegations were designed to pressure him into settling. “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion,” he said.
The rapper questioned why Buzbee filed a civil lawsuit instead of pursuing criminal charges if the accusations were genuine. “These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” Jay-Z wrote, urging that anyone committing such a crime should face legal consequences.
Jay-Z also criticized Buzbee’s character, accusing him of being deceitful and manipulative. “This lawyer… seems to have a pattern of these types of theatrics!” he stated. He further challenged Buzbee’s claim of being a Marine, accusing him of lacking the honor and dignity associated with the title.
The Roc Nation founder ended his statement with a bold declaration: “I look forward to showing you just how different I am.”
