Police Clash with Gunmen in Anambra, Leaving Two Injured and Vehicles Burnt

A violent clash between security personnel and armed gunmen took place in Anambra State on Thursday, December 5, leaving two security operatives injured and two security vehicles completely burnt. The incident occurred late at night and was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.

According to Tochukwu, the gunmen were traveling in a blue Hilux vehicle, with plate number GDD 440 TJ, when they attempted to attack a police checkpoint in Ajali, Orumba North Local Government Area. Police operatives fought back and managed to track the gunmen’s movements. The security forces then intercepted the vehicle along the Umuchu-Amesi-Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area.

Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be stolen from a member of the public, and it contained coolers used for food preservation. During the gunfight, one police officer and one AVG operative sustained gunshot wounds. Both are receiving treatment in a hospital. Unfortunately, two operational vehicles belonging to the AVG were caught in the fire and were completely destroyed.

The police spokesperson confirmed that joint security operations are still ongoing in the area. Authorities have assured the public that further developments will be communicated.
