A tragic incident occurred in Ihiala, Anambra State, when Bright Ezechukwu was shot dead by gunmen just hours before his wedding. Bright had been preparing for his big day, scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024. On the evening of November 22, Bright went to pick up his fiancée, Chinwendu, with his best man and a bridesmaid.

As they were returning to their hometown of Uli in the same Local Government Area, they stopped at a fuel station in Ihiala. It was there that two gunmen on a motorcycle ambushed Bright. They shot him twice in the head, leaving him to die at Ezego Junction, near the Sky Prince Petrol Station.

The best man and the others, who had been riding ahead, noticed Bright had stopped following them. When they tried calling his phone, it went unanswered. Concerned, the best man turned back and found Bright’s lifeless body.

A witness confirmed the gunmen had stopped Bright, demanding he hand over all his possessions, including his phone, money, and even the food they were carrying for the evening. Despite pleading for his life and explaining he was about to marry, Bright was killed. His death robbed him of the joy of becoming a husband and celebrating his wedding day.

This heartbreaking event has left the community in shock and raised concerns about the growing insecurity in the area. The incident also highlights the dangers faced by ordinary people due to violent criminals who show no regard for human life.
