Chiamaka Nnadozie, Nigeria’s standout goalkeeper, has been named as one of the top five finalists for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the final candidates on December 4, 2024. Nnadozie is the only Nigerian player to make the final list, as Raheedat Ajibade did not make the cut, despite initially being on the 10-player shortlist.
The other footballers joining Nnadozie in the race for the prestigious award are Tabitha Chawinga, Temwa Chawinga, Barbara Banda, and Sanaâ Mssoudy. This year’s award will see a new winner, as Asisat Oshoala, who has claimed the title six times since 2018, is not among the finalists.
In addition to her nomination for the Women’s Player of the Year, Nnadozie is also a finalist for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, which she won in 2023. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed an impressive year, further solidifying her place among Africa’s best.
Another notable nomination for Nigeria comes from Chiamaka Okuchukwu of the Falconets, who is a finalist for the Best Young Player award.
Chris Danjuma, coach of the Falconets, is also nominated for Coach of the Year, while the Super Falcons are up for National Team of the Year. Edo Queens have been nominated for Club of the Year, showcasing Nigeria’s strong presence in the CAF awards.
The winners will be revealed at the upcoming CAF Awards ceremony, where fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the best in African football.
